Coleg Sir Gâr welcomed international guests from Finland, the Basque Country and Canada as part of the college’s St David’s Day celebrations.
International relations with further education colleges in Wales have been established as a result of ColegauCymru - the national organisation representing all Welsh further education colleges and institutions, who set up the Teaching and Learning Network to improve quality of teaching and learning in the further education sector.
The group of seven international visitors observed Coleg Sir Gâr’s bilingual teaching delivery in health and social care, childcare, entry level and construction. The visit, which aimed to share best practice in education, followed ColegauCymru’s International Teaching and Learning Conference in Cardiff in which the college and international visitors took part.
In Carmarthenshire, chief executive of Menter Bro Dinefwr shared with the group the county language initiatives and their working relationship with the college.
Lowri Morgans, Welsh language manager at Coleg Sir Gâr, said: “It was lovely to welcome our visitors on St David’s Day where they experienced part of our culture and celebrations including cawl and traditional entertainment from our students.
“From an education point of view, they expressed their appreciation of the diversity of bilingual provision we offer and encouragement of the Welsh language.”
Key staff from the college have also exchanged visits to Finland, Canada and the Basque Country as part of ColegauCymru’s Teaching and Learning and Bilingual Networks to share best practices in teaching.
