A Coleg Sir Gâr sports degree student has won the Swansea City AFC Community Trust Premiere League Girls’ Football Volunteer of the Year award.
Robert Prosser from Mumbles, is studying an honours degree in sports coaching and performance at the college’s Graig campus and was one of three volunteers nominated by the club where he has been gaining experience in the sports industry.
Working with girls’ football at the club, Robert has coached the club’s girls’ team every week. Robert also volunteers with Coleg Sir Gâr 5x30 including girls’ football and soccer tots group, Swansea University Ladies and Carmarthen Schools Girls’ U15s.
Swansea City Football Club’s Craig Richards, said: “Rob is a very committed individual who turns up come rain or shine.
“He volunteered with us on the Premiere League Girls’ project and developed new skills and confidence which gave him the opportunity to volunteer on our Premiere League Girls fixtures against other premiere and football league clubs including Southampton, Plymouth and Porstmouth.”
Natalie Allen, 5x30 development officer at Coleg Sir Gâr said: Rob came back into education as a mature student and that made him very driven and focussed on achieving and succeeding within the industry/
“He has been a great addition to the team and has grown as a coach during his studying and volunteering time, he is a valued member of the team and we’re so pleased that his efforts have been noticed and awarded.”
Robert Prosser added: “It's a massive privilege for me to win the award, I'm thankful to Coleg Sir Gâr’s 5x30 programme working alongside that great team, without them giving me the original platform and links to volunteer with them I wouldn’t have the confidence to go on to what I've achieved so far.
“The biggest pleasure I get is seeing the smiles on the faces of the participants, that’s why I volunteer, seeing children enjoying sport.”
