Aiming to shape future talent in Carmarthenshire, Coleg Sir Gâr’s brand new sports and theatre facility, called The Forge, has been officially opened at the college’s Graig campus.
Eluned Morgan, Minister for Welsh Language and Lifelong Learning, officially opened the brand new building, which has been built to benefit all learners through promoting physical activities as part of a healthy lifestyle as well as for those students who are on sports and creative industries courses.
Part-funded by the Welsh Government, the building will provide students on courses including performing arts, dance, sport, fitness and production arts with brand new facilities.
With an extensive sports hall included in the design, the new facility will also benefit students from across the college with an area to participate in active lifestyles as well as providing the Netball Academy with a home venue for the very first time.
The centre also houses a fully equipped brand new fitness suite with modern changing facilities as well as a purpose-built and modern theatre with retractable auditorium seating and industry standard media and lighting facilities.
Nikki Neale, Coleg Sir Gâr campus and faculty director at Coleg Sir Gâr’s Graig campus, said: “We were delighted to welcome Eluned Morgan to officially open our new facility where she met with sports academy students, team captains and creative industries students.
“The Forge held its first ever official performance as part of the opening where the college choir, singers, guitarists, drummers and our degree dance students, entertained its first public audience. I am looking forward to seeing many future performances and sport tournaments within the building and know that many of our students will be accessing the fitness suite to help their well-being.
The Forge will also enable us to continue to develop our community and partnership work as we will be creating future projects with the county council and Sports Wales as well as providing opportunities for our local schools and sports clubs to engage and use these wonderful facilities. ”
