Former Coleg Sir Gâr student Ffion Lewis visited her sports lecturers with her first ever Welsh cap which she received after playing against South Africa which Wales won 19-5.

Ffion plans to visit again to present the college with a jersey when she’s played a few more games for the national side including Hong Kong.

The Scarlets player was also supported by the college’s Rugby Academy during her studies although she originally started in its hockey and football academies until she developed a taste for rugby.

Whilst at college, she played for Wales U18s, Welsh Colleges, Scarlets and travelled to Sweden to take part in the European U18s Sevens Tournament.

Her sporting inspiration is her Florida-based bodybuilding brother, Flex Lewis.  She told BBC Sport, “He got told he couldn’t make it and he’s learned to prove people wrong, I was told I wasn’t good enough and I wanted to prove people wrong”.

Ffion successfully completed an extended diploma in sports coaching and performance at the college which earned her a place to study a degree at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Euros Evans, director of Coleg Sir Gâr’s Rugby Academy said: “Ffion started her rugby career at Coleg Sir Gâr and although she wasn't the biggest player, she quickly adapted to the game and was a player we had great hopes for.

“Ffion's hard work and commitment has allowed her to fulfil the potential that we saw in her. We are very proud of the small part we have played in her success.”
