The animal studies centre at Coleg Sir Gâr’s Pibwrlwyd campus in Carmarthen is offering apprenticeship training in animal care starting this July.
Accredited training is available for 16 to 24 year-olds who are already in employment and to college and school leavers who would prefer a work-based training programme.
The centre is also seeking employers who would like to offer accredited apprenticeship opportunities to their staff.
Working with the employer and a college training advisor, apprentices should be employed to work a minimum of 16 hours a week. A training advisor visits the employee in the workplace to set targets, review progress, performance and address employer issues.
The apprentice will gain a level two or level three apprenticeship and a work-based diploma qualification in animal care.
Training programmes are tailored towards the apprentice’s specific industry and interests which include: animal care and welfare, zoo and wildlife establishments, dog grooming, pet care and retail, animal welfare enforcement and animal training.
