Coleg Sir Gâr has recently appointed Becky Pask as its new entrepreneurship coordinator.
With a passion for nurturing young people into thinking creatively about business and self-employment, Becky is delighted to be given the opportunity of driving the enterprise agenda forward at Coleg Sir Gâr.
Explaining her delight at her recent appointment, Becky explains:
Young people today often say they want to be their own boss, to start their own company or to make a living from a personal passion. If you are thinking about setting up your own business, you shouldn’t be afraid of giving it a try.
Students enjoy being given autonomy to tackle problems, take responsibility for their own actions, engage in real issues and evaluate the outcomes of their decisions. It is about helping the learners develop enterprise capability, financial capability and economic and business understanding.
Enterprise within Education
Enterprise within education is a high priority for the Welsh Government and for Coleg Sir Gâr and I fully support developing it within an education system as it places enormous value on the skills that employers want. They want to see young people coming into the labour market with good communication skills, team working, problem solving skills and business and customer awareness with an enterprising attitude. It’s up to us to develop these skills in our learners and as the new enterprise coordinator and as a teacher, my role involved motivating learners, help raise aspirations and develop valuable skills.
We want to work with businesses
We absolutely welcome the opportunity of working with businesses and value their involvement.
I would like to be working with more companies and organisations because to me, this is the obvious central vehicle for bringing together opportunities.
Experience shared by business leaders is the best way of inspiring young people and we welcome any companies that can provide enterprise mentors as a vehicle to bring the best of business into the classroom and mentors will help us drive this engagement forward.
The world is changing fast, and equipping young people in entrepreneurship requires even closer engagement between the world of employment and education. Young people need to be inspired, helped to better understand the relevance of their education, and supported in making independent and fact-based decisions about their futures. Direct exposure to employers and to self-employment is key.
I am absolutely delighted to be appointed as entrepreneurship coordinator and I am thrilled to be a part of improving outcomes for young people.
