Coleg Sir Gâr Students’ Union president Siôn Davies, has been elected into the NUS national executive council, the main decision making body affecting students UK-wide.
Siôn, a former St John Lloyd pupil, is studying A-levels at college where he was awarded an ambassador scholarship in his first year and elected as Welsh language officer for the Students’ Union.
Politically driven, and with a passion for the further education sector as well as Wales, Siôn represented Coleg Sir Gâr at the NUS conference in Brighton, joining 33 other candidates from the UK. He was the only person from a Welsh institution and one of only five representing further education.
Siôn Davies, who made a confident and passionate speech at the conference, said: “I have my own political views, but I am a strong believer in the NUS representing a fair diversity of political opinion.
“All students across the UK should be equally represented and I will be ensuring that Welsh students are represented on the board.”
Siôn received the highest number of first preference votes at the conference and in September, is hoping to study politics, philosophy and economics at the University of Manchester.
