Health and social care students at Coleg Sir Gâr have crushed the competition at a recent health and social care event where they won the gold, silver and bronze medals.
Competing for the Welsh title in a Skills Competition Wales event held in Ammanford, students Kathryn Thomas took the gold award, Cerys Evans won silver and Charlotte Gaul won bronze.
Four colleges and nine competitors took part, combining colleges from south and north Wales, demonstrating a combination of practical and academic skills in health and care work.
The task required competitors to conduct a role-play with an elderly person which included a routine observation and a multiple-choice test.
Kirsty Williams, health and social care lecturer at Coleg Sir Gâr said: “To win all three of the top awards is really exciting for the health and social care team and demonstrates that the skills levels of our students are outstanding, which is an essential element when it comes to the health and care sector.”
Skills Competition Wales funded by the Welsh Government forms part of the Welsh Government’s growth and sustainable Jobs programme, and aims to raise the profile of skills in Wales.
